In the frontal impact, the passenger compartment remained stable. However, there was rupture of several spot-welds in the driver's footwell and the car was penalised. Subaru have informed Euro NCAP that they have made improvements to the welding in this area. Dummy readings indicated good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. However, structures in the dashboard were thought to pose a risk to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions. In the side barrier test, the XV scored maximum points with good protection of all body areas. However, in the more severe side pole test, dummy readings of rib compression indicated weak chest protection. The seat and head restraint provided good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. Based on dummy readings in the dynamic crash tests, the XV scored maximum points for its protection of the 18 month infant. In the frontal impact, forward movement of the 3 year dummy, sat in a forward facing restraint, was not excessive. In the side impact, both dummies were properly contained by their restraints, minimising the possibility of dangerous head contacts. The front passenger airbag of the XV is by default off, allowing a rearward facing child restraint to be used in that seating position. The airbag is turned on only when an occupant of a suitable size is detected in the seat. The system met Euro NCAP's requirements and was rewarded. The bumper scored maximum ...

Crash Test 2005 - 2009 Subaru Legacy (Frontal Offset) 2005 (Side Impact) IIHS
Subaru Legacy 2005-09models FRONTAL OFFSET TEST OVERALL EVALUATION: Structure/safety cage Injury measures Restraints/dummy kinematics Head/neck Chest Leg/foot, left Leg/foot, right Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight. Good Acceptable Marginal Poor Test details: The Subaru Legacy was redesigned for the 2005 model year. The frontal offset crash test ratings also apply to the station wagon version of the Legacy for the 2005-07 model years (the Legacy wagon was discontinued after 2007). However, the ratings do not apply to Outback models. Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the roof rail, grab handle, and sun visor. Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head accelerations from the roof rail, grab handle, and sun visor hits were low. Subaru Legacy 2005 models SIDE IMPACT TEST WITH STANDARD SIDE AIRBAGS OVERALL EVALUATION: Injury measures Head protection Structure/safety cage Head/neck Torso Pelvis/leg Driver Rear passenger Important: Side impact crash test ratings can be compared across vehicle type and weight categories. Good Acceptable Marginal Poor Test details: The Subaru Legacy was redesigned for the 2005 model year. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has evaluated the crashworthiness of the Legacy in two side-impact crashes. In the first test, the driver ...
