Crash Test 2004 - 2006 Mitsubishi Galant (Side Impact)
Mitsubishi Galant 2005-06models SIDE IMPACT TEST WITH STANDARD SIDE AIRBAGS OVERALL EVALUATION: Good Injury measures Head protection Structure/safety cage Head/neck Torso Pelvis/leg Driver Good Acceptable Good Good Good Rear passenger Good Good Good Marginal Important: Side impact crash test ratings can be compared across vehicle type and weight categories. Test details: The Mitsubishi Galant was redesigned for the 2004 model year. Seat-mounted side airbags designed to protect drivers' and front passengers' heads and torsos were made standard for the 2005 model year. (In 2004 side airbags designed to protect only torsos were optional.) Two tests of the Galant were conducted, one a 2005 model equipped with standard side airbags, and one a 2004 model without side airbags. These vehicles are rated separately, except that the structural ratings and rear passenger injury and head protection ratings for both vehicles are based on both tests. Note: Beginning with 2007 models, side curtain airbags designed to protect drivers' and front and rear passengers' heads and side airbags designed to protect drivers' and front passengers' torsos became standard, so these ratings do not apply to 2007 and later models. Injury measures: Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries would be possible in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low. Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy ...

Test details: The Chrysler 300 was introduced in the 2005 model year, and the Dodge Charger was introduced in the 2006 model year. Two tests of the 300 were conducted, one with an optional side curtain airbag for the driver and rear passenger, and one without. These vehicles are rated separately, except that the structural ratings for both vehicles are based on both tests. Beginning with 2008 models, optional side airbags designed to protect drivers' and front passengers' torsos were added to the optional side curtain airbags previously available; therefore the earlier test ratings with optional side airbags no longer apply to cars built after the 2007 model year. Injury measures: Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries would be likely in a crash of this severity. A fracture of the pelvis would also be possible, and loading to the shoulder was excessive. Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head protection ...

Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures would be possible in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low. Head protection: Driver — The dummys head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof. Saturn L Series 2002-05models SIDE IMPACT TEST WITH STANDARD SIDE AIRBAGS OVERALL EVALUATION: Poor Injury measures Head protection Structure/safety cage Head/neck Torso Pelvis/leg Driver Good Poor Poor Poor Poor Rear passenger Good Good Good Good Important: Side impact crash test ratings can be compared across vehicle type and weight categories. Test details: The Saturn L Series was introduced in the 2000 model year. Side curtain airbags for drivers' and front and rear outboard passengers' heads were made optional on 2001 models and standard beginning with 2002 models. The L Series was discontinued after a limited number of 2005 models were manufactured. Injury measures: Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries plus a fracture of the pelvis would be likely in a crash of this severity. In addition, loading to the shoulder was excessive. Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head protection: Driver — The dummy's head brushed past the side curtain airbag and was hit by the intruding barrier. This impact did not produce high head injury measures, but head hits with intruding objects such as other vehicles, trees, and poles should be prevented. Rear passenger — The dummy's head was protected from impact with any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.

Injury measures: Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that a fracture of the pelvis would be possible in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low. Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries would be possible in a crash of this severity. Test details: The Dodge Stratus and Chrysler Sebring were redesigned for the 2001 model year. When side airbags are optional, as in these vehicles, the Institute conducts the test without this option. If a manufacturer offering optional side airbags requests the Institute to conduct an additional test of a vehicle with this option and agrees to reimburse the cost of the vehicle, a second test is conducted. DaimlerChrysler did not request such a test. Injury measures: Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures plus a fracture of the pelvis would be likely in a crash of this severity. Serious neck injuries also would be possible. In addition, loading to the shoulder was excessive. Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures would be possible in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low. Good Acceptable Marginal Poor Test details: The Subaru Legacy was redesigned for the 2005 model year. The frontal offset crash test ratings also apply to the station wagon version of the Legacy for the 2005-07 model years (the Legacy wagon was discontinued after 2007). However, the ratings do not apply to Outback models. Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the roof rail, grab handle, and sun visor. Crash Test 2006 - 2009 Mercedes Benz R - Class mfg. Before September 2008 (Side Impact) IIHS
Mercedes R class 2007-09models SIDE IMPACT TEST WITH STANDARD SIDE AIRBAGS OVERALL EVALUATION: Acceptable Injury measures Head protection Structure/safety cage Head/neck Torso Pelvis/leg Driver Good Marginal Good Good Acceptable Rear passenger Good Good Good Good Important: Side impact crash test ratings can be compared across vehicle type and weight categories. Test details: The Mercedes R class was introduced in the 2006 model year. Beginning with 2007 models, side torso airbags were made standard for second row seat occupants (they were optional in 2006 models). Two tests of the R class were conducted because in the first test, the airbag warning lamp remained illuminated prior to the test, indicating a possible airbag malfunction. Mercedes diagnostics indicated the fault was confined to the second row right torso airbag, opposite the rear dummy's seating position. Nevertheless, the second test was conducted to determine if the airbag fault warning influenced the results. The second test (without a fault warning) produced very similar injury measures, which confirm the validity of the first test. Therefore, all ratings are based on averaged results from both tests. Injury measures: Driver — Measures taken from the dummies in the two tests, taken together, indicate that rib fractures would be possible in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low. Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy in both tests indicate a low ...

The Dodge Ram 1500 was redesigned for the 2009 model year. Beginning with 2009 models manufactured after September 2008, the front door trim panels were modified to improve occupant protection in side impact crashes (note: information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the vehicle on or near the driver door). Injury measures: Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries would be likely in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low. Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head protection: Driver — The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof. This pillar is required by federal standard to provide some protection for occupants' heads.
